The confidence of Galan Lithium Limited (ASX: GLN) in its Western Basin projects in Argentina has been boosted with some exciting new assay results.

The company has announced exceptional preliminary assay results from its maiden drill hole at Pata Pila, which forms part of its Western Basin projects located on the Hombre Muerto salar in Argentina.

The drill hole intercepted several brine horizons varying from 25m to 258m in thickness and was completed at 718 metres after encountering basement at a depth of 713 metres.

Galan Lithium Managing Director, Juan Pablo Vargas de la Vega said preliminary results from four samples returned consistent, high lithium grades greater than 900mg/l Li with low impurity levels.

He described the results as being some of the highest‐grade results reported from any brine project in Argentina to date.

Further samples taken to the end of the hole also reported heavy brines with high specific gravity values ~1.20 and conductivities >200 mS/cm. Further double packer tests will be undertaken following downhole geophysics which is currently underway.

“The confirmation of high grades in excess of 900 mg/l Li with low impurities indicates that Pata Pila has the potential to be one of the highest‐grade lithium brine projects in the world and we are confident that Galan has the potential to increase its lithium resource inventory beyond Candelas.”

The Pata Pila licence covers a large alluvial fan adjacent to Livent Corporation’s tenure covering the western margin of the Hombre Muerto salar.
