Metalicity (ASX:MCT) is firing up the drill rigs at its historic Kookynie project in the WA Goldfields region, announcing a maiden drilling program is underway.
The explorer will be looking to test mothballed minesites, such as Diamantina, Cosmopolitan and Cumberland (DCC), located approximately 50km south of the town of Leonora.
Each of the historic sites hold strong precious metal credentials, with the combined DCC trend producing 360,000 ounces at a grade of 15 g/t Au between 1895 and 1922.
The sites have only been subject to cursory, shallow exploration since the glory days of production and Metalicity will be looking to bush off the dust off its new asset.
The explorer will be conducting confirmatory drilling as well as attempting to extend strike at its prospects, which remain open at depth.
Six drill holes have been planned with four anticipated into the DCC trend and one each at the nearby McTavish and Champion prospects.
A total of 1,200m is expected to be drilled, evenly split between diamond and reverse circulation drilling.
“We are very pleased to be undertaking the initial drilling programme at Kookynie,” Metalicity CEO Mat Longworth said.
“We look forward to the results which will determine the direction of future drill programmes to advance the understanding and confidence in the potential mineral resources,” he said.
The company expects initial results from this drilling program to be available in July 2019.
