Western Australia’s Pilbara lithium story continues to gather steam, with explorer Metalicity (ASX:MCT) announcing further anomalous lithium targets at it’s Pilgangoora project, located 80 km south of Port Hedland.

The lithium targets are a result of rock chip sampling and geological reconnaissance mapping of pegmatites, conducted during a recent field visit.

The sampling uncovered anomalous lithium as well as one pegmatite hosting traces of niobium and tin.

Metalicity’s Pilgangoora project is located approximately 9 km north of the world-class Pilgangoora group of lithium deposits, which are currently being developed by other Western Australian prospectors, including Pilbara Minerals Limited (ASX:PLS) and Altura Mining Limited (ASX:AJM).

The Pilgangoora North tenements cover the same geological extensions as the Pilgangoora group of lithium deposits.

Commenting on the additional lithium targets Metalicity Managing Director Matt Gauci said:

The exploration program has confirmed the likely source granite for many of the pegmatites with rare-element geochemical signatures present within the Pilgangoora North tenements and has provided additional information which supports the two priority target areas – PN 2 and PN 3 – in which to focus further exploration activity for lithium bearing pegmatites.”

The company has noted that it will continue to investigate the potential for granite to be the source rock for lithium present within the Pilgangoora project.

Two areas have been selected to undertake additional reconnaissance mapping and rock chip sampling. The prospector will also continue to investigate the collected pegmatites to allow more effective drill planning.
