Tasmanian tin and tungsten explorer, TNT Mines (ASX:TIN) is giving new life to the historically high-grade Aberfoyle mine, releasing positive assay results from previously unprocessed drill holes.

The drilling results are have returned tin grades as high as 4.1 percent from the Lutwyche-Kookaburra prospect, which is accessible via surface shafts from existing underground development at Aberfoyle.

The Lutwyche-Kookaburra prospect is a series of six narrow, strongly mineralized quartz veins, located 350 metres below surface.

TNT reports that the combined vein system corresponds to veins mapped at surface.

The prospect was previously considered a potential tin target at the Aberfoyle mine. The mine is a historic high-grade site, with an approximate total production record of 2.1 million tonnes of tin at an average grade of 0.91%.

We consider the assay results from the two recently logged and sampled unprocessed diamond drill holes as strongly consistent with historical observations in underground and surface mapping, and confirms the Lutwyche-Kookaburra vein complex to be a significant narrow-vein tin-tungsten target,” TNT Mines chairman Brett Mitchell said.

“We will continue to evaluate optimal programs to progress this, and other prospects on the Aberfoyle license, while preparing for inaugural diamond drilling at our nearby Great Pyramid license,” he said.

Geological mapping recently completed has generated a series of priority drill targets at the Great Pyramid tin deposit, with exploration activities imminent.

Shares in TNT mines opened at 24 cents per share.
