Extensional diamond drilling over Mathinna Group sediments at Flynn Gold‘s Trafalgar prospect has struck a bonanza grade intercept at shallow depth and expanded an open gold system at its fully owned Golden Ridge project in northeast Tasmania.
A 4.0m @ 23.7g/t Au from 23.0m strike included a half metre at 169.8g/t, and the Trafalgar system has now been grown beyond 400 metres in east-west strike length, running from surface to a depth of 420 metres and remaining open in all directions.
More high-grade gold was intersected within the granodiorite intrusive and within adjacent metasediments, and Flynn Managing Director and Chief Executive Neil Marston said the company was thrilled that drilling at Trafalgar had delivered another high-grade intercept.
Within this intersection we have recorded the highest gold grade interval seen to date at Golden Ridge. This drill hole was sited to test beneath a recently discovered historical adit and has produced an exciting intercept as we grow the scale of the deposit beyond a 400m strike length,” Mr Marston said.
Mr Marston added that there is no drilling either down dip or along strike east of the intercept, presenting an exciting opportunity for a follow-up.
“We have paused drilling at Trafalgar to allow time for our technical team to assess further assay results as they become available and plan the next drill program. With assay results for 925m of diamond drilling still pending, we look forward to announcing further results in the coming weeks,” he said.
Forward plan
Phase 1 drilling delivered highly encouraging results with a top strike of 12.3m @ 16.8g/t Au and has now been heavily backed by the Phase 2 program.
Results from two more holes and the remaining parts of another pair, with all reported holes so far successfully intersecting zones of gold mineralisation.
The bonanza grade intercept sits around 100 metres along strike of its current top intercept and has been interpreted to be a continuation of the same high-grade mineralised vein lode.
Results continue to support the exploration model and that Golden Ridge stands as a large-scale intrusive-related system, and Flynn Gold is now finalising studies to understand controls and new geological framework.
Preliminary planning has been completed for wide step-out drilling to test continuity between the Brilliant and Trafalgar prospects across a strike of around 2.5 kilometres and a number of drill pad locations have already been permitted for the follow up at Trafalgar, with more locations expected once all information is on hand.
