Argentina-focused explorer Galan Lithium (ASX: GLN) expects maiden drilling to begin at Candelas prospect in the Hombre Muerto salar this week.
The program is planned to comprise five holes to be drilled along the ~12‐15 km extent of the Candelas channel.
Canadian-based international drilling company Major Drilling has been appointed to undertake the diamond drilling campaign at Candelas. Major Drilling has significant experience in drilling salt flats for brine in Argentina.
Additionally, Galan has contracted the services of SRK Australia (with support from their offices in Argentina) to oversee resource definition, QA/QC and review work over the Candelas project with a view to potentially generating a JORC compliant resource estimation.
The campaign aims to test the geophysical model developed by SRK and its consultants and is also planned to provide detailed data on the stratigraphy within the Candelas channel. The results from the initial hole will also assist in the planning of subsequent drilling.
Galan’s Managing Director Juan Pablo (“JP”) Vargas de la Vega said the team in Argentina was well experienced in the exploration for lithium bearing brines and was focused on providing the Company with the best chance to prove the company’s thesis that Candelas can host commercial levels of lithium similar to our neighbours at Hombre Muerto.
Earlier this month, Galan converted a swag of listed options, netting the company funds to advance its maiden drilling campaign at Hombre Muerto lithium project.
Shares in Galan were last trading at 31c on Tuesday.
