High-Tech Metals‘ sampling campaign has returned multiple high-grade nickel sulphide rock-chips exceeding the upper detection limit alongside more high-grade returns of copper and cobalt at its Werner Lake project in Canada’s Ontario province.
It marks a surface level discovery, with over-limit assays pending for three surface samples which surpassed the one per cent nickel limit, with 12 more samples of cobalt and copper up to 6.22 per cent exceeding the same mark.
Exploration at Werner Lake has previously focused on its copper and cobalt potential, but High-Tech Metals now has a discovery of elevated nickel sulphide prospects prioritised for September drilling.
HTM Executive Director Sonu Cheema said campaign covered just six of the 20 square kilometre project area, and the results had validated the systematic approach of its exploration team.
The confirmation of additional high-grade cobalt and copper at surface was fantastic, however, the discovery of high-grade nickel sulphides at surface was exceptional and now transforms Werner Lake into a highly prospective Ni-Cu-Co project,” Mr Cheema said.
“We are excited about the drilling program planned for the coming weeks, which includes the ’Drill-ready‘ targets identified through the rock sampling program and including the hunt for nickel sulphides,” he added.
Werner Lake nickel
The region has a history of nickel fertility, and HTM’s territory is bordered by high-end assets. An old Gordon Lake Mine which produced 1,370,285 tons averaging 0.92% Ni and 0.47% Cu sits 3.5 kilometres to the east, while a Norpax deposit with a historic 1,010,000 tonnes at 1.2% Ni and 0.5% Cu lies westward.
HTM has its own 720,000 lbs @ 0.51% Co & 0.24% Cu resource ready for expansion and is in the final planning stages of a maiden campaign for its collection of high-priority targets, focused on its nickel discovery and on the proximity of significant base metal results with high magnetic anomalies.
And with its new discovery of a nickel commodity under the gaze of international attention, the company is not done looking for expansion opportunities near Werner Lake and will continue assessing assets to align with a vision of emerging as a battery metal specialist.
