HyTerra, the first Australian-listed company to tap hydrogen, is unlocking the naturally occurring enriched gases in the first critical testing phase at its potentially disruptive Project Geneva in the US state of Nebraska.
Crews are installing a submersible pump to remove water and allow hydrogen gas to flow freely from two zones containing elevated levels of hydrogen within the subsurface.
The initial works will enter the highly anticipated second phase in mid-March when hydrogen production potential will be established from flow data collected over several months.
Critically, the data will include concentrations of hydrogen and other commercially significant non-hydrocarbon gases (e.g., helium) that may coexist in the gas stream.
This is a pivotal moment for HyTerra to demonstrate the hydrogen production potential of the Hoarty NE3 well and gain first-hand operational experience in natural hydrogen resource development,” Hyterr Executive Director and Chief Technical Officer Avon McIntyre said.
“We look forward to providing further updates to shareholders during March.”
About Natural Hydrogen
Natural hydrogen is hydrogen that is generated through naturally occurring processes in the subsurface. Although hundreds of historical wells have observed natural hydrogen, explorers previously had no incentive to commercialise.
The urgency to decarbonise has created the ideal conditions to develop a new industry, targeting an inexpensive and sustainable supply of hydrogen
About HyTerra
The first ASX listed company with a focus on pioneering the exploration and production of natural hydrogen. HyTerra has an earn-in interest in a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) with Natural Hydrogen Energy LLC which includes the world’s first wildcat well targeting natural hydrogen in Nebraska, USA. Under the terms of the JDA, HyTerra has the option to acquire 51% of the assets and assume operatorship.
