Lithium Universe has appointed lithium technical expert Dr Jingyuan Liu to the Board as Non-Executive Director and is set to use his skills to establish a Québec Lithium Processing Hub alongside LU7’s Apollo Lithium exploration flagship in the heart of Canada’s James Bay province.
Dr Liu’s technical abilities are widely regarded, and he has both reared and been sought as a special adviser to several global lithium carbonate and hydroxide projects.
As General Manager of Development and Technologies at Galaxy Resources he was responsible for overseeing construction and commissioning of the world-class Jiangsu Lithium Carbonate plant, and his roles in developing the Sal de Vida brine project and Tianqi’s West Australian Lithium Hydroxide Plant further established his authority in the field.
Lithium Universe Chairman Iggy Tan said Dr Liu is well known in the lithium industry as a go-to expert when it comes to lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide technology.
Dr Jingyuan Liu’s appointment as Non-Executive Director to the Board of Directors of Lithium Galaxy Limited is a significant move that further enhances the Board’s expertise in the lithium industry, with Jingyuan having served as a special adviser for numerous lithium projects globally,” Mr Tan said.
“With his expertise in operating the Jiangsu Lithium Carbonate Plant and being my right-hand man during our time at Galaxy, LU7 is fortunate to have such a critical lithium professional on the Board,” he added.
The Québec Lithium Processing Hub
Lithium Universe have laid plans encompassing more than exploration in James Bay, and its new appointment is tasked with establishing the Québec Lithium Processing Hub alongside Apollo.
The processing hub is envisioned as a versatile standalone concentrator with capacity reaching up to 1 million tonnes feeding a refinery for production of as much as 16,000 tonnes of battery-grade carbonate a year.
It is a vision shared by Dr Liu, with a shift to Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries in the EV industry expected to add more weight to future carbonate demand over hydroxide.
Exploration quickly begun at the Apollo Lithium project since last months’ listing, but with Dr Liu and Greenbushes manager Pat Scallan now on deck as Non-Executive Directors, LU7 is keeping its eye on the long game in James Bay
