S&P /ASX 200 listed energy company Cooper Energy’s (ASX: COE) managing director David Maxwell has won the 2019 John Doran Award at the 19th RIU GoodOil Conference, held in Perth 11- 12 September 2019.
The hotly-contested award puts the spotlight on a prominent personality who has delivered outstanding industry performance over a lifetime of achievement.
Mr Maxwell is a leading oil and gas industry executive who since joining Cooper Energy in October 2011 as MD has seen the company skyrocket from a $50 million market cap in 2016 to a market cap approaching $1 billion on the back of accelerated expansion of its activities to become a rapidly growing producer and developer of gas for South Eastern Australia.
Cooper Energy has been in existence for 16 years, with significant success developing onshore oil and gas assets in the Cooper Basin which stretches across the borders of South Australia and New South Wales.
The Company was successful in three of its first five wells, setting strong foundations for future expansion both in the Cooper Basin, as well as the Otway and Gippsland Basins, where the company now has a host of conventional and unconventional assets.
Moving from strength to strength, Cooper was able to establish a favourable joint venture partnership with fellow East Coast producer Beach Energy to further increase energy production.
Presently, Cooper is preparing to bring online the Sole gas project offshore Victoria with first gas flows on target after commissioning during September quarter of APA Groups’ Orbost gas plant upgrade.
In addition, Cooper recently made the first discovery of a new gas field by an offshore well in the Otway Basin in over 10 years via its Annie-1 gas exploration well, the first well of a joint venture drilling campaign with Mitsui E&P and the first offshore exploration well the company has conducted in Australia.
“When I look at the list of people who have won the award and the award being named after John Doran, it is truly an honour,” Mr Maxwell said accepting the award.
“It is not an individual effort, it is a team effort and the team effort is something that started quite a long time ago.
“I have had the pleasure to work with some great people at Santos, at Woodside, at BG Group and from that a lot of lessons were learnt from a lot of different people and Cooper Energy has provided an opportunity to have a lot of fun, do it safely, and to give back and in that sense it is quite humbling to receive an award like this.”
RIU GoodOil continues to remain an oil and gas industry destination, as the home of the John Doran Award and the premiere event for Australia’s small and mid-cap oil and gas companies.
